Byron Walks

Start your morning or end your day with one of our gorgeous coastal walks. You’ll witness picturesque views that will be worth the exercise :)

Lighthouse Walk

2hr Walk from Guesthouse

Arguably the most popular walk boasting stunning ocean and hinterland views. There are many variations of this walk from path to beach to rainforest.

Our favourite track starts along Main Beach (if low-tide), walking towards the Lighthouse via the Fisherman’s Lookout. Head up to and through The Pass Carpark and you’ll locate a steep incline which will take you around the cliff and down to Wategos Beach. Continue to the end of the cove and you’ll begin the journey up to the Lighthouse.

Make sure to stop along the way and take in the breathtaking views that the most easterly headland point in Australia offers. Once at the top, spot dolphins and humpback whales (May-November) and capture the panoramic views (definitely worth the incline & stairs).

On your way back down continue past the cafe, following the curving road passing Tallow Beach Lookout Point and you’ll begin a steep path into the forest along Tallow Ridge Track. Follow this bush track down and you’ll re-emerge by Captain Cook’s car park. Turn left and continue along the path which will take you back into town. Beach Byron Bay is a great spot to stop on your way back from your walk to enjoy a takeaway coffee or to dine-in and enjoy the view of Clarkes Beach.

Main Beach to Fisherman’s Lookout

1.5hr walk from Guesthouse

You can’t go wrong with a leisurely beach stroll, especially the coastal stretch from Main beach around to Fisherman’s Lookout. Make sure you go during low-tide as you’ll head around the Pass (popular with surfers) and follow the steps up the rocky outcrop on the beach to Fisherman’s Lookout. The timber platform is perfect for enjoying the panoramic views of the ocean, surfers below and spotting dolphins and whales.

Three Sisters Track (Broken Head)

1.6km - 30-45 minute walk

A short 1.6km, non-challenging bush trail that will take you through lush rainforest and provide incredible panoramic coastal views. The track begins at Broken Head Carpark (directions) tucked up a grassy rise, you’ll meander through the rainforest and emerge at a spectacular setting. Take a picnic and sit at the Three Sisters lookout, or if it’s low-tide head down to Kings Beach for a swim.

Alternatively, if the tide is low, continue down the steps to Kings Beach and wrap around to Whites Beach (be careful along the coast line as you will need to climb over plenty of rocks to get from Kings Beach to Whites Beach) it will then loop up through Broken Head Nature Reserve where you may spot some wildlife. This is about 7.5km and can take you around 2hrs to complete.
