If you’re looking for places for a first or second date, Byron Bay is full of cute cafes, quirky bars and gorgeous restaurants. Likewise, if you’re looking to be more active with your date, there are plenty of things you can do.
But what if you want to keep it a little more intimate? What about romantic date ideas in Byron Bay that are a little off the beaten track?
Here are three somewhat secret spots in Byron Bay where you can enjoy precious, uninterrupted time together. Somewhere you can be fully present with each other. Somewhere where you can lay the foundations for a beautiful relationship.
1. Picnic by the fig trees at Ewingsdale Hall
Who would have guessed that just off the highway and close to The Farm is a little road lined by huge, magnificent fig trees that run adjacent to a large lawn expanse and a cute country hall?
This nature spot – usually a favourite for weddings and other events – is an unexpected gem of a place that feels calm and majestic all in one. It benefits from lots of shady areas and is a perfect spot for a romantic picnic on a sunny, balmy day.
Pull up a picnic blanket, lay out your spread of canapés and say cheers to time together with your loved one as you lounge and while the day away.
Note: Ewingsdale Hall is often booked for weddings and other events, particularly at weekends, so you’ll need to check that you’re not intruding on any bookings. Click here to find out more about gatherings at Ewingsdale Hall.
2. Hang out in a secluded cove at The Pass
This teeny hidden treasure right in the heart of Byron Beach has magical ocean views and surprising privacy and isolation. People often get so close to this beauty spot without realising it’s there.
Once you’ve walked down the usual route to The Pass, turn to the right and you’ll see a tiny little entrance through to the back beach. Access can be tide dependent, but if you time it right, it’s totally worth it. Within a few metres you can transport yourself from the bustle of a busy beach to the tranquillity of an isolated, romantic little cove.
Set up in one of a few hidden spots within the cove that are protected from the wind. Enjoy uninterrupted ocean views surrounded by a stunning landscape of rocks and cliffs, away from the hustle and bustle.
Note: This date spot can be affected by the tides and is therefore not always accessible. While it’s not known to cut off from the main beach, it’s best to be fully aware of tide times, beach conditions and weather conditions, and act accordingly. Stay safe.
3. Wander the expansive beach stretch from Suffolk Park to Broken Head
If you’re keen for a date where you can walk and talk without interruptions, the vast expanse of beach from Suffolk Park down to Broken Head is just perfect.
Park up in one of the free beach parking spots in Suffolk Park, walk down the bush path to arrive on the beach. Turn right so the ocean is on your left hand side as you wander along a secluded sandy stretch, down past the Ti Tree Lake Aboriginal Area and on towards Broken Head.
Listen to the music of the sand as you scuff it with your feet, watch the surfers skilfully carve up the waves and take in views of the magnificent headland and Nature Reserve. If you’re feeling more adventurous, continue your walk on up through the rainforest to the Three Sisters Lookout.
This is one picturesque date that will leave you with long-lasting memories.
So there you have it. A few ideas for your next date or romantic weekend in Byron Bay.
